Metropolitan Detroit Orthodox Choir to present sixth annual benefit concert October 23

DETROIT, MI [MW Diocese Communications] — The Orthodox Choir of Metropolitan Detroit will perform its sixth annual benefit concert at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 707 E. Lafayette Blvd., in Detroit’s Greektown district, on Sunday, October 23, 2016 at 6:00 p.m.

With the theme “Orthodox Hymns of Praise,” the concert program will consist of hymns and liturgical songs from different Orthodox Christian traditions.

The choir is composed of more than 40 volunteer singers from several Orthodox Christian parishes in southeastern Michigan.  Under the artistic direction of Matushka Victoria Kopistiansky, it is regarded as one of the finest ensembles of its kind in the country.

The concert, which is open to the public and free of charge, is being sponsored by the Council of Orthodox Christian Churches of Metropolitan Detroit [COCC].  Free-will offerings during the concert will support three Orthodox charitable organizations that aid local communities in the Detroit metro area, including Detroit’s Own Orthodox Radio, Orthodox Detroit Outreach, and FOCUS Detroit.

The COCC is a 58-year-old clergy and lay association that represents various canonical Orthodox churches in metropolitan Detroit and sponsors a variety of worship, fellowship, charitable, educational and outreach programs.
