COLUMBUS, OH [MW Diocese Communications] -- For the first time since his consecration as Bishop of Chicago and the Midwest, His Grace, Bishop Matthias visited Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker Church here February 4-5, 2012. He was welcomed to the parish by its rector, Archpriest Miroljub Ruzic, and the faithful of the community.
On Saturday, February 4, Bishop Matthias presided at the marriage of Father Miroljub and Protinica Snezana’s daughter, Mihaila, to Rares Stelea.
The following morning, Bishop Matthias presided at the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy. In addition to Father Miroljub, concelebrating clergy included Priest Radovan Jakovljevic, Chicago, IL and Priest Stephen Frase and Deacon Paul Mitchell, Columbus, OH.
After the Liturgy, Bishop Matthias and the parish faithful enjoyed a traditional Agape meal.
Saint Nicholas Church traces its beginning to March 2000, when a group of Orthodox Christians met with His Eminence, the late Archbishop Job, to discuss the establishment of a new OCA parish in Columbus. On November 9 of the same year, Father Miroljub and the parish were welcomed into the Diocese of the Midwest.
"Our diverse congregation numbers around 80 souls and includes people from America, Armenia, Belarus, Bulgaria, Georgia, Greece, Macedonia, Romania, Moldova, Russia, Serbia, and Ukraine," said Father Mirojlub.
The parish is located just south of the Ohio State University campus, with a clearly marked entrance on the West/Forsythe side of the building.
