CHICAGO, IL [MW Communications] - On Tuesday, November 18 and at the invitation and request of His Eminence, Metropolitan Christopher of the Serbian Church of North and South America, His Eminence, Archbishop Job served a Panakhida Service for the repose of the soul of Patriarch Pavle of Serbia at Holy Resurrection Cathedral here.
His Eminence was joined by Chicago Hierarchs Archbishop Nicolae, Romanian Archdiocese of the Americas, Bishop Demetrios, Greek Archdiocese of America and Bishop Daniel, Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA and local clergy.
Patriarch Pavle has served the Serbian Church since 1990. His urging for a peaceful resolution to the strife that plagued the former Yugoslavia have earned His Holiness an indelible place in modern history. He passed away Sunday at 95 years of age.
Patriarch Pavle was a respected theologian and known for personal humility and love. Many stories of the patriarchs modesty are known and often told. His Holiness was often seen on public transportation in Belgrade.
May the memory of His Holiness be eternal.
