On Saturday October 31 during the celebration of the Divine Liturgy for the Feast Day of St John of Chicago and Tsarskoye Selo, His Eminence, Archbishop Job ordained Gregory Wickes to the Holy Diaconate.
St Mary Orthodox Church in Cornucopia, Wisconsin has celebrated this summer its Centennial Anniversary through a number of events. Since the exact founding date of the parish is not clear the faithful have dedicated the entire summer to celebrating this most momentous event.
The main event of the summer celebration was held on the weekend of July 25/26 with Vespers and Divine Liturgy and an afternoon program and banquet that saw more than 250 people in attendance. Orthodox faithful from Lublin, Huron, Clayton and Minneapolis made the pilgrimage to celebrate the anniversary. St Mary's Balalika Orchestra played at the banquet.
On Sunday August 23 the Centential Anniversary celebration continued with Archbishop Job celebrating the Divine Liturgy together with Archpriest Thaddeus Wojcik and Protodeacon Joseph Matusiak.
St Mary's Church is one of the oldest in the diocese having been settled in 1909 by Eastern European immigrants who settled in Northern Wisconsin because of the good farming conditions. St Mary's church is home to the original iconostasis from St Vladimir's Church, the forerunner parish to Holy Trinity Cathedral in Chicago, Illinois.
CHICAGO, IL [MW Communications] - Holy Trinity Cathedral was honored as His Eminence, Archbishop JOB, concelebrated the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy with His Beatitude, Metropolitan JONAH, on Sunday, July 26, 2009. More than 120 parishioners and friends gathered to welcome His Beatitude to Chicago.
Archpriest John S. Adamcio, Dean of Holy Trinity Cathedral, welcomed His Beatitude to Holy Trinity prior to the vesting and the beginning of the Liturgy. Archpriest Sergei Garklavs, Dean Emeritus of the Cathedral, together with Archpriest Oleg Mironowicz, Archpriest Vasile Susan, Protodeacon Joseph Matusiak, and Deacon Thomas Keith were the concelebrating clergy.
The choir under the direction of Reader Gregory Ealy, Director of Music Ministries at Holy Trinity, sang the responses prayerfully and with great beauty.
Following the Liturgy, His Beatitude thanked Archbishop Job for his courage, wisdom, and strength of leadership in the diocese and throughout the Orthodox Church in America.
His Eminence welcomed His Beatitude not only to Holy Trinity, but back to the Metropolitan's home town as well, presenting the Metropolitan with a beautiful Panagia as a remembrance of his visit.
A luncheon was provided by the Cathedral for the hierarchs and guests. His Beatitude received a book on the history of Holy Trinity Cathedral, as well as a watercolor of the Cathedral.
Metropolitan JONAH was able to see firsthand the continuing restoration of Holy Trinity Cathedral. With the guidance and prayers of His Eminence, Archbishop JOB, Holy Trinity is being repaired and restored. Designed by Louis Sullivan, and built in 1903, the Cathedral is in dire need of repair, being restored to her original beauty as well.
It was a wonderful opportunity for the faithful of Holy Trinity to worship with and meet His Beatitude. Eis polla eti despota!
