IOCC seeks volunteers for Orthodox Action Team in Waseca, MN December 2-3
MINNEAPOLIS, MN [MW Diocese Communications] — Since the devastating hurricanes in 2005, International Orthodox Christian Charities [IOCC] has provided over 1,200 volunteers and thousands of work-hours to help families rebuild their lives by building new homes and cleaning up after disasters.
“Even though our Orthodox brothers and sisters have been spared from the recent flooding in southern Minnesota, hundreds of our neighbors have not been so fortunate,” according to IOCC. “In order to put our Orthodoxy into action — ‘Orthopraxy’ — we need local participation to help clean up with our ecumenical partners in Waseca, MN.”
The IOCC “action team” will work in Waseca from 8:45 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, December 2-3, 2016. Volunteers, who must be 18 years of age or older, are asked to meet at the Waseca Sheriff’s Department, 122 Third Avenue Northwest, Waseca. Sixteen and seventeen year old volunteers will be accepted if accompanied by their parent, legal guardian or an adult with a power-of-attorney to act on their behalf for the day. Volunteers are asked to wear warm work clothes and closed-toed shoes. IOCC will provide gloves and protective gear.
Lunch will be provided at no cost. Donations to IOCC to help defray expenses may be made on-line. (Select Donate Now, “Direct my gift to” and, from the dropdown box, “United States.”)
To volunteer, please register on-line. Please direct enquiries to Rebecca Tumm at firstname.lastname@example.org or Dan Christopulos at email@example.com or call 952-930-3286.
Those wishing to carpool from the Twin Cities are asked to meet at Ziegler Cat, 901 West 94 Street, Minneapolis on Friday and Saturday at 7:30 a.m. sharp; return by 5:30 p.m.
