Chicago-area Clergy and Faithful Celebrate Feast of St. John of Chicago

CHICAGO, IL [MW Diocese Communications] -- Chicago deanery clergy and faithful celebrated the feast day of St. John [Kochurov] of Chicago with the Divine Liturgy at Holy Trinity Orthodox Cathedral on Wednesday, October 31, 2012.

Archpriest John S. Adamcio reflected in his sermon how fortunate those gathered were to be able to worship together among a "cloud of witnesses" in the Cathedral which St. John helped to build and served as pastor to a flock made up of Galician and Carpatho-Russian immigrants.  The face of the parish, and the Orthodox Church in America, has since grown and evolved into one made up of many different geographical backgrounds.

St. John Kochurov was martyred on October 31, 1917 during the Bolshevik revolution.  Father John Adamcio, the Dean of Holy Trinity Cathedral, asked those present that on that day in particular, a popular American secular holiday, they remember the example of St. John as someone who "lived for his faith."  He asked that those present strive to live that example in their everyday lives as well.
