Wisconsin Pan-Orthodox women’s organization to host conference October 22

MILWAUKEE, WI [MW Diocese Communications] — The Orthodox Christian Women’s Association of Wisconsin [OCWA] will host an educational conference, “Doing Good Deeds,” at the American Serb Memorial Hall here from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on October 22, 2011.

OCWA, made up of women from all Orthodox Christian Jurisdictions in southeastern Wisconsin, is under the auspices of the Orthodox Clergy Syndesmos of Wisconsin.

Speakers include Priest John D. Jones, Professor, Department of Philosophy, Marquette University and Associate Priest at Saints Cyril and Methodius Church [OCA], Milwaukee. His presentation is titled “Opening the Doors of Compassion: Cultivating a Merciful Heart.”

Two breakout sessions are scheduled. Mrs. Patty Flowers, Regional Chief Executive Officer, American Red Cross, Southeastern Wisconsin, and Priest William Olnhausen, Pastor of Saint Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Church, Cedarburg, WI, will be presenters.

The two individuals responsible for establishing OCWA 15 years ago — Priest James Dokos, Proistamenos of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Milwaukee, and Ms. Cathleen Callen, a member of Saint Sava Serbian Orthodox Cathedral, also in Milwaukee — will be honored during the event.
